Define Material Classes
There are two ways to define material classes. You can extract the material classes using the attribute, description field, or seam sequence file identified in the Model Details pane. You can also insert rows in the Material classes data grid and enter the material class values manually.
Define Material Classes by Extracting from the Model
- In the Define Geology > Models tab, in the Material classes data grid, click Extract from model.
- change the Name to a name that is descriptive of the material class
- select Calculate qualities for only the material classes for which you want to calculate qualities
- choose a colour for each material class that is used when you are viewing charts and material movement arrows in the 2D Canvas
The material class values are extracted from the attribute, description field, or seam sequence file you specified on the Model Details pane. The Name for each material class extracted is the prefix Class_ and the Model value.
Note: After the material classes are extracted, you can:
Define Material Classes Manually
- In the Define Geology > Models tab, in the Material classes data grid, click Insert.
- In the new row, type the value for each column.
- To create additional rows for other material classes:
- Repeat steps one and two.
- In the Material classes data grid, click in the row you want to copy, and then click Create copy.
- In the Material classes data grid, right-click in the row you want to copy, to display the shortcut menu, and click Copy.
- In the Material classes data grid, click the field at the last column of the last row, and then press TAB.
A new row is added beneath the existing rows. The new row has identical values to the copied row for each column, except the Name. The Name for the new row is the Name of the copied row with _1 appended. If you have copied the row previously, and <Name>_1 exists in the data grid, the name for the new row appends the next incremental unused integer. For example, if Waste_1 and Waste_2 exist, the new row has the Name Waste_3.

A new row is added beneath the existing rows. The default name given to the new material class is class_1. If you have already added a blank row, which has the name class_1, the next row added increments the number by one, so that the new row has the name class_2.
A first row is added to the data grid.
